Appeals court acquits detective who accused police chief of leak

April 30th, 2018

Former detective Jiri Komarek will not be punished for accusing Czech Police President Tomas Tuhy of a serious leak of information as the appeals court abolished the 12-month suspended sentence with a two-year probation and acquitted him of the power abuse charges today. The verdict of the Regional Court in Prague has taken effect. In 2016, Komarek ranked among the strongest critics of a police reshuffle initiated by Tuhy and he left the police due to it. Komarek claimed that the aim of the reshuffle was to remove elite police unit chief Robert Slachta. He later said he made this statement to make people discuss the reshuffle more.
