A Polish-Israeli writer, a member of the Children of the Holocaust association and a journalist of Jewish descent were granted the title of Warsaw honorary citizen on Thursday, the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Halina Birenbaum, the Polish-Israeli writer saved from the Holocaust, Krystyna Budnicka from the Children of the Holocaust association, and Marian Turski, the Polish-Jewish historian, journalist and former Auschwitz inmate received the honorary citizenship of the Polish capital during a gala session of the Warsaw City Council at the Royal Castle. The ceremony was attended by Warsaw Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, her deputies, city councillors, representatives of Jewish organisations and of the German Embassy, Israeli Ambassador Anna Azari, clergymen and parliamentarians.
