Ukraine's leading presidential bidders are pro-Western - Czech PM

April 1st, 2019

Czech PM Andrej Babis appreciates that both leading Ukrainian presidential candidates supported the Western course of the country and Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek praises Ukraine for managing to organise presidential election without serious problems, they wrote to CTK today. The Ukrainian electoral commission declared today that none of the candidates won a majority of the vote, which means that the best two would meet in the runoff election on April 21. After the results from two thirds of the constituencies were calculated, actor Volodymyr Zelensky is the clear winner with 30.4 percent of the vote, followed by outgoing President Petro Poroshenko (16.2 percent) and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko (13.1 percent).
