Karel Karika, an assemblyman in Usti nad Labem, north Bohemia, and David Tiser, a co-founder of the Ara Art NGO supporting Roma art and the Roma LGBT community, received the Frantisek Kriegel Prize awarded by the Charter 77 Foundation this year, it said in a press release today. They were awarded for their fight for human rights and equality as well as the rights of the Roma, homeless and socially excluded, the Foundation said. The two men are present-day Roma heroes. They are on the fringe of public interest, but still they fight for the rights of others, it added.
