Temperatures drop to -38 degrees in Czech mountains

February 3rd, 2012

A temperature of minus 38.1 degrees was measured near Kvilda in the Sumava mountains near the Bavarian border on Friday. A record low temperature of minus 42.2 degrees was measured near Ceske Budejovice, south Bohemia, in 1929. The temperature at the Prague international airport was below minus 18 degrees. The cold spell hit the country this week and is to last for the most part of next week. Temperatures similar to those on Friday are expected on Saturday, too.
