Teachers demand dismissal of education minister and pay rise

December 10th, 2018

The Polish Teachers' Solidarity Union has called for Education Minister Anna Zalewska's dismissal at a series of press conferences held in several Polish cities on Monday. "We demand that the education minister, Anna Zalewska, be dismissed," the head of the Polish Teachers' Solidarity Union, Ryszard Proksa, said at a press conference in Warsaw. Trade unionists, in a common statement, pointed to Zalewska's "seven deadly sins." According to them, these "sins" include lack of pay rises for teachers, extension of the career advancement pathway, introduction of new, unfavourable regulations of teachers' work assessment and conducting a simulated dialogue with trade unions.
