The victory of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party in Sunday's general election is of great importance "and the best of news" to Hungary, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday. According to the first results published on Monday morning, PiS won garnering 49.3 percent of the vote, comfortably ahead of the Civic Platform (22.3 percent) and the Democratic Left Alliance (10.9 percent). Commenting on the results, Szijjarto noted that "very serious procedures" are under way against Hungary and Poland in the European Union. It seems Hungary "will continue to have an ally we can always count on" in those procedures, he said.
