Following talks in Minsk with local democratic trade unionists, the head of Poland's Solidarity trade union, Piotr Duda, expressed satisfaction with the discussions and said his union would support its Belarusian counterparts. Duda said the talks with Alexander Yaroshuk, the head of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, had concerned the possibilities of individual aid to union members who were striking as well as for the unions themselves, which he said had to "evolve" if the situation in that country was to develop in a positive way. The Polish union leader expressed relief that he had managed to get to Minsk and had had the opportunity to discuss with friends "problems important for all."
