Istvan Ujhelyi, MEP of the opposition Socialist Party, on Friday called on the government to "drop its attitude offending the European community". Speaking at a press conference concerning a report on Hungary by the European Parliament's LIBE committee, Ujhelyi warned Prime Minister Viktor Orban that he has "no authority to drive Hungary out of the European Union". Ujhelyi said that the situation was "serious" and suggested that Hungary could lose its "position and weight" in the EU for two decades "if the procedure (triggered by the report) is completed" and Article 7 of the EU Treaty is activated against Hungary.
