Stopping the ratification of the so-called Istanbul Convention (CoE Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence} was a matter of principle and a top priority of the Slovak National Party (SNS), said SNS caucus chair Tibor Bernatak on Friday. Bernatak along with SNS thanked the lawmakers who supported a resolution aimed at preventing the ratification process, adding that SNS is against violence and is willing to discuss changes to existing laws. SNS maintains that the Istanbul Convention is in discord with the Slovak Constitution, which defines matrimony as a union between a man and a woman.
