The pavement, which 'eats up' smog fumes, is located at the Daszynskiego Roundabout in Warsaw. Research shows that the special concrete can reduce the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air by 30 percent. Hubert Witkowski, a doctoral student at the LodL University of Technology, in central Poland, told PAP that "such technology is already known in the world, but it is undergoing its first tests in Poland." The 'smog eating' pavement was laid as part of a pilot project of researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Warsaw University of Technology and the ŁódĽ University of Technology, in partnership with the Skanska construction and development company, who are checking the performance of the sidewalk in Polish conditions.
