State Veterinary and Food Administration (SPVS) executive director Jozef Bires stated for TASR on Friday that Slovakia is very closely observing the avian influenza outbreak in eastern Poland. "Should it be confirmed that the disease has spread, we'll ban imports from the area, be it live poultry, meat, meat products or eggs. For now, we're only ready to do this because no official report has come from Poland yet, which probably means that the Poles have the disease under control. We'll react accordingly," said Bires, adding that they haven't provided any information on the development of the situation since January 2.
