Slovakia has the lowest average age for first-time mothers among the Visegrad Four (V4) countries (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary). While Slovak women on average give birth for the first time at the age of 27, women in the other three V4 countries become mothers at 28 on average. The average age in these terms in the EU is 29. "The average age of first-time mothers in Slovakia has shifted significantly since 2008. While in 2008 women were giving birth on average at 26, in 2017 the age had shifted to 27. This trend can be observed in all European countries, however," analyst Lenka Buchalakova of Slovenska sporitelna said.
