Slovakia's Constitutional Court on Wednesday rejected a motion filed by a group of opposition MPs asking for the court to examine the constitutionality of the voting act, which does not allow Slovak citizens to vote from abroad in elections apart from general elections. The court explained that "the requirements demanded by the law haven't been met". A group of 37 MPs from the caucuses of OLaNO, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and We Are Family lodged the motion in March 2019. In their reasoning they said there was no legitimate reason to prevent Slovak citizens from voting in elections other than general elections, arguing that the act was discriminatory. "The current system deprives 350,000 Slovak citizens of the right to participate in elections," SaS MP Martin Klus said.
