Slovak police catch driver exceeding speed limit by almost 80 km per hour

February 6th, 2020

Trencin police on Wednesday fined a 37-year-old driver who was caught speeding on the D1-motorway stretch near Nove Mesto nad Vahom at over 200 kilometres per hour. The police reported on Facebook that officers measured the Skoda Octavia Scout travelling at 207 kilometres per hour, thereby exceeding the speed limit by 77 kilometres per hour. "The driver told the officers that he'd been submerged in his own thoughts and didn't realise that he was going so fast. The officers fined him 800 euros," the police said, adding that this is the maximum fine for speeding.
