Slovak parlt turns down citizenship amendment

Slovaks will continue to lose their Slovak citizenship by acquiring that of any other country, as parliament turned down a proposal submitted by a group of opposition MPs led by Ondrej Dostal. The amendment was designed to ensure that Slovaks could not be stripped of their citizenship. The proponents also wanted all those who have been deprived of Slovak passports by acquiring foreign citizenship since July 17, 2010, to be able to regain their Slovak citizenship without having to meet conditions otherwise required.
