The number of reported crimes in Slovakia fell on a yearly basis in 2018, with one notable increase seen with child pornography - by 54 percent, however, according to a report presented by the Prosecutor-General's Office to the parliamentary defence and security committee. Prosecutors' offices in Slovakia last year registered 64,280 cases that required criminal prosecution. For the sake of comparison, there were 69,773 criminal cases recorded in 2017. "The increase [in child pornography] has been caused by relatively easier access of the young and the general public to such content," said Deputy Prosecutor-General Viera Kovacikova.
