Changes to the judicial system proposed by the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party are aimed at preventing chaos in the justice system, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a Tuesday press conference in Warsaw. According to Morawiecki, the bill put forward by PiS was formulated in a way that would secure legal order in the system. On Dec. 12, PiS MPs filed a bill that envisages disciplinary proceedings against judges for acts or omissions that may prevent or significantly impede the functioning of the judiciary, as well as for actions undermining the status of legally appointed judges. Additionally, the new law obliges judges to report which parties they belonged to, in which associations they are active and which handles they use on social media. It also bans them from dealing with political matters.
