Presidential aide comments on sample referendum questions

June 7th, 2018

Presenting unofficially the likely constitutional referendum questions, presidential aide Paweł Mucha said they could include one asking Poles whether to amend the present constitution or replace it with a new basic law. Last year, President Duda suggested Poland's constitution should be amended to take into account the changed domestic and international environment, two decades after the country's basic law was passed. To this end, he would like to ask citizens whether to alter the constitution and if so, in what respect. His preferred date is somewhere around November 11, 2018, the centenary of Poland regaining its independence. President Duda is expected to file his referendum motion with the Senate in July.
