Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday said that the president's chief aide Krzysztof Szczerski was an "excellent" Polish candidate for EU commissioner. On Thursday, Poland put forward Szczerski's candidacy for the post after Morawiecki's meeting in Warsaw with European Commission President-elect Ursula von der Leyen. The prime minister said then that the decision had been taken after consultations with President Duda, "who has been conducting Poland's foreign policy together with the government." According to Morawiecki, Szczerski "is an outstanding expert on the subject of European affairs ... who knows a lot about institutions and organisations within the EU."
