Polish PM dismisses deputy family and labour minister

January 9th, 2019

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has recalled Elzbieta Bojanowska from the post of deputy family and labour minister, government spokesperson Joanna Kopcinska said on Wednesday. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) announced on Tuesday that the head of the ministry, Elzbieta Rafalska, had sent a motion to the prime minister to dismiss deputy minister Elzbieta Bojanowska from her post. Bojanowska was responsible for the controversial draft amendment to the law on counteracting domestic violence. The contested legislation did not recognise an isolated beating incident as domestic violence.
