Poland sees stagnation in renewable energy - report

April 9th, 2019

Poland's use of renewable energy sources for power generation decreased in 2018 as imports of coal, natural gas and electricity rose, the Energy Forum said in a report published on Tuesday. Presenting the report, Energy Forum President Joanna Mackowiak-Pandera said that the share of hard coal and lignite in power generation in 2018 was similar to the previous year, and was at 78.2 percent against 78.4 percent in 2017. Power generation from renewable sources dropped to 12.7 percent in 2018 from 14.1 percent in 2017. This was mainly due to weaker winds during that year but, she noted, power generation from photovoltaics was on the rise. "However, the whole renewable energy sector has lapsed into stagnation," she added.
