May 30th, 2019
Poland has demanded explanations from Russia over three Russian-language commemoration plaques at the site of the 2010 Smoleńsk air disaster which killed Poland's then President Lech Kaczyński and almost 90 top state and military officials. The plaques, which among others carry a brief resume of the accident and its causes, make frequent reference to the findings of a Russian-hosted international commission and a Polish commission which investigated the crash, which Poland does not recognise.
