Poland has joined a group of EU countries which have recognised Juan Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela, Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz announced in Brussels on Monday. European countries including Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK were the first countries to recognise Juan Guaido, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition and the head of parliament, as the country's interim president on Monday. The move was made after a deadline, set by a group of EU countries for Nicolas Maduro to call presidential elections, expired on Sunday. Madura has told a Spanish television broadcaster that he did not intend to meet the ultimatum. Minister Czaputowicz arrived in Brussels to attend a meeting of EU and League of Arab Countries FMs
