Poland must receive proper compensation for energy system change - PM

December 2nd, 2019

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said before the start of the COP 25 UN Climate Change Conference in Madrid on Monday that Poland must be offered special compensation for its effort to change its energy system and reduce emissions. PM Morawiecki told reporters that it was important to take into account not only the amount of carbon dioxide produced by particular states but also CO2 per capita consumption. "For instance, on the one hand countries such as the Netherlands or Belgium are in the lead of countries fighting against climate change, and on the other hand their per capita CO2 consumption is much higher than Poland's," he said. According to the Polish prime minister, the EU is trying to put pressure on the rest of the world with regard to CO2 emissions.
