Parliament to debate no-confidence motion in speaker next week

August 1st, 2019

On Friday August 9. Poland's Sejm (lower house of parliament) will debate a motion of no confidence in Speaker Marek Kuchcinski aimed at removing him from the post, a provisional timetable of the sitting published on Wednesday revealed. On Friday August 9, the Sejm will continue a sitting that commenced on Wednesday July 31, at which it will debate a motion filed by the opposition Civic Platform-Civic Coalition (PO-KO) grouping calling for the dismissal of Marek Kuchcinski as speaker of the lower house. The PO-KO candidate to take over the position is current Deputy Speaker Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska. The motion, filed last Friday, was a reaction to reports that the Sejm speaker flew with his family in a government aircraft.
