Opposition to call no-confidence vote in Babis's cabinet

June 18th, 2019

The Czech opposition Civic Democrats (ODS), Pirates, Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), Mayors and Independents (STAN) and TOP 09 agreed on Tuesday to call a no-confidence vote in Prime Minister Andrej Babis's cabinet in the Chamber of Deputies, ODS chairman Petr Fiala told journalists. The parties collected the necessary number of signatures for the proposal and will hand it over to lower house chairman Radek Vondracek on Friday. Under the Czech constitution, the head of the Chamber of Deputies has to call the session immediately next week. The opposition wants to hold the no-confidence vote next week so that Babis, who will attend an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, can participate.
