Police chief Tibor Gaspar obviously has not realised that he is the reason for Slovaks' mistrust in the police, opposition OLaNO chairman Igor Matovic (OLaNO) said on Tuesday in reaction to Gaspar's earlier reluctance to resign. According to Matovic, Gaspar has "utterly failed" in combating corruption, while it was his lack of action that prompted investigative journalist Jan Kuciak to dig into graft, for which he was murdered along with his fiancée. "His entire record can be summed up in the statement that he's been securing for years impunity for powerful people who have privatised the police and have built up their success from 'tunnelling' the state," said Matovic.
