New military division to be active in eastern Poland - MoD

A new division of Poland's armed forces will be active in the east of the country as that is the direction from which the current threat comes, Minister of Defence Mariusz Blaszczak said on Thursday. Blaszczak was speaking during ceremonies to transfer the command of two brigades - the 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade and the 21st Podhale Rifles Brigade - to the 18th Mechanised Division. "This division is operating in the east of Poland due to the fact that today's threats are from that side," Blaszczak said, recalling the deployment of the Multinational NATO Battle Groups in the region. "It is no accident that the eastern flank is subject to special treatment of the North Atlantic Alliance."
