Poland's incumbent prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, will continue in his role if the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party wins the October 13 parliamentary elections, PiS deputy spokesman Radoslaw Fogiel told the RMF FM radio on Thursday. Asked whether the fact that PiS leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski is set to undergo two orthophaedic operations after the elections makes him an unlikely candidate for the prime minister's post, leaving Morawiecki as the probable head of government, Fogiel said he would not link those two issues. "The fact that PM Mateusz Morawiecki is going to be the prime minister is independent from this or that operation," Fogiel said, adding that PiS must first win the elections. Kaczynski will undergo a total knee replacement, but he also said in an interview with the tabloid Super Express that he may need a similar operation on the other knee as well.
