Member of mountain rescue service killed in avalanche in High Tatras

A member of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) has been killed in an avalanche in the vicinity of Bielovodska dolina in the High Tatra mountains. HZS reported on Thursday that the avalanche took place in the morning, catching one of two mountain climbers who happened to be in its path. "The other climber remained stuck in exposed terrain roughly 100 metres below a peak and was unable to see or hear [his partner]," HZS said on its website. The victim of the avalanche was immediately located from the air by helicopter. He was partially buried, however, and had suffered fatal injuries.
