Almost 70 percent of the Slovak population disagree with the draft law on a special levy for retail chains, worrying chiefly about the potential increase in prices of common foodstuffs, according to a survey carried out by Go4insight polling agency. According to the SNS-sponsored bill, retail chains should pay a special levy amounting to 2.5 percent if foodstuffs make up at least 10 percent of their turnover and if they run operating units in at least two districts. The money gained like this would be used for a risk fund and a marketing fund to support sales of Slovak, as well as fresh food, for the fight against climate change and for acquisition of new technologies.
