January 2nd, 2019
The Czech centrist Christian Democratic Union-Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-CSL), which was founded as the Czechoslovak People's Party (CSL) by a few merging Catholic parties on January 5-6, 1919, will mark its 100th birth anniversary this weekend. It has continuously operated since its founding, with the only pause coming during the second world war. The KDU-CSL will officially celebrate its centenary in Brno on March 31, one day after its national congress that is to elect a new party leadership. Its current chairman Pavel Belobradek will not seek re-election at the congress.
