John Paul II statue erected in Presov, Slovakia

Dozens of locals watched as a bronze statue depicting Pope John Paul II was installed in the centre of Presov at midday on Tuesday. The 2.5-metre sculpture was placed midway between the Roman Catholic Saint Nicholas Cathedral and the Evangelical Holy Trinity Church. The monument was created by Kosice-based sculptor Peter Beno in a project that involved co-operation between Presov's City Hall, the regional government and the Roman Catholic Church.
