Meat from the slaughter of sick cows was sent to 10 countries and to around 20 outlets in Poland. It is currently being recalled, Chief Veterinary Officer Pawel Niemczuk said on Thursday. The results of an investigation into the illegal slaughter of sick cows were revealed during an investigative television programme in Poland. Journalists used undercover filming techniques to expose how diseased cows were killed at the slaughterhouse in Ostrow Mazowiecka, in northeastern Poland, without a vet to oversee the operation. Niemczuk stated that meat from the slaughterhouse was processed at two plants and then sent to "more than 20 outlets throughout the country." In all, 9.5 tonnes of meat was said to have come from the illegal slaughter, of which 2.5 tonnes was sold abroad.
