Infineon inaugurates new Hungary headquarters

June 18th, 2018

Germany semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies on Monday inaugurated its new 17 billion forints (EUR 52.6m) Hungarian headquarters in Cegled, central Hungary, creating 533 jobs. The government supported the investment with a 1.2 billion forints grant, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto noted at the ceremony. Infineon is an important link in the switch-over to electromobility, the minister added. "It is important that tech companies bring investment, R+D or production to Hungary," he said. A two-lane road between Budapest and Cegled will be constructed by late 2019 with a view to improving the town's infrastructure and logistics, Szijjarto said. Chairman of the board of Infineon Technologies Jochen Hanebeck said the semiconductors made by Infineon play a key role in electric cars, self-driving vehicles, solar cells and wind-turbines, as well as data security.
