Former Czech regional governor jailed for eight years for corruption

January 31st, 2020

The Central Bohemia Regional Court sentenced former influential politician David Rath to eight years in prison for bribery and public procurement manipulations in the second branch of his corruption case, prolonging his previous seven-year term by one year on Friday. The court found Rath, a Social Democrat (CSSD) lawmaker (2006-2012), Central Bohemia governor (2008-2012) and health minister (2005-2006), guilty on all counts of the indictment. The court also concluded that all other defendants, eight individuals and nine firms, including the Metrostav construction firm and its general director Pavel Pilat, had committed crimes.
