Amid the heatwave in Slovakia and elsewhere in Europe, former Slovak prime minister Robert Fico on Friday pondered whether conditions for people working in heat could perhaps be improved even further than by way of a directive recently adopted by the health ministry. "We began discussing [the directive] a few weeks ago, and this resulted in the adoption of a more detailed amendment on protecting employees working in extreme heat or cold," said Fico. Fico stressed that it was necessary to revamp the former directive in order to prevent employers from bypassing it.
