FAMU bodies call on ministers to use diplomacy to help Sentsov

August 24th, 2018

The art council and the academic senate of the Film Academy in Prague today called on Czech foreign affairs, justice and culture ministers to help resolve the current situation of Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov using diplomacy, dean Zdenek Holy, the council chairman, has told CTK. In 2015, Russian courts sentenced Sentsov to 20 years in prison for terrorism in Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula which Russia annexed in March 2014. He pleads not guilty and rejects the charges as fabricated by means of false evidence. He has been on hunger strike since May, demanding that further 64 Ukrainian activists be released from Russian prisons.
