Twenty-three former Polish ambassadors have complained about the state of the rule of law in Poland in an open letter to US President Donald Trump. Trump begins a visit to Poland on Saturday. In their letter, the ambassadors, all united in the Conference of Polish Ambassadors -- a group of former Polish diplomats whose aim is to analyse foreign policy -- called Poland "a country where the rule of law is no longer respected," and observed that Trump's "powerful voice" in defence of tolerance, mutual respect and compliance with the law "may have historical significance." They also warned that the present Polish government's course was steering Poland towards the role of a "Trojan horse [...], a country drifting to the fringes of the community of freedom and democracy," and stressed that this was destructive both to Poland and its allies, including the US.
