The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) will rule on the issue of Poland's National Judicial Council (KRS) and Supreme Court probably after the summer vacations, a CJEU source told PAP on Thursday. "A verdict will come probably after the vacations," the source told PAP, adding that due to the urgency of the case, a decision was expected in September or October. According to an opinion issued by the court's advocate general, Evgeni Tanchev, the Polish Supreme Court's Disciplinary Chamber does not fulfil the requirements of judicial independence as understood in EU law. The advocate general also said that "the manner of appointment of the members of the NCJ (National Council of the Judiciary) discloses deficiencies that appear likely to compromise its independence from the legislative and executive authorities."
