The European Parliament (EP)'s Conference of Presidents, made up of the leaders of the political groups and the EP president, decided on Thursday to hold a further debate next week on the rule of law in Poland. The motion was submitted by the Renew Europe faction of the EP in connection with the law signed by Polish President Andrzej Duda this week governing disciplinary procedures of Polish judges. Slovak MEP, Vice President of Renew Europe and Rapporteur for EU Mechanism on Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Michal Simecka wrote on Twitter on Wednesday that the "rule of law crisis has been escalating."
