The European Investment Bank (EIB) will grant Poland EUR 650 million to co-finance an EUR 1.3-billion plan to upgrade around 1,150km of railways, the Polish Finance Ministry said on Thursday. Quoting Poland's Development Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who signed the funding agreement with the EIB, the ministry wrote that railway projects were a model example of good cooperation between the Polish government and the EIB. Morawiecki added that the planned rail upgrades enhanced the sustained growth of infrastructure in Poland. "The modernisation of railway infrastructure is a model example of good cooperation between the government and the EIB ... This project will further the sustained growth of infrastructure in Poland, which is of great importance to the economy and the living standards of Polish people", Morawiecki said.
