The European Commission (EC) is satisfied with the amendments to the Supreme Court (SN) law which the Polish lower house of parliament adopted on Wednesday, EC spokesperson Mina Andreeva told PAP on Thursday. "The Commission is satisfied that change is moving precisely in the direction we have requested," Mina Andreeva said. "These changes need to be confirmed once the legislative process is completed," the EC spokesperson said. Under the amendment forwarded by the ruling party and approved by the Sejm (lower house) on Wednesday, Supreme Court and Supreme Administrative Court judges retired under the contested law can return to their duties. They will also no longer be required to ask the president for consent to continue in their role when they reach 65 years of age.
