The Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson said in Warsaw on Thursday that EU association agreements have become a stimulus for difficult reforms in the Eastern Partnership countries. Danielsson opened a conference on Thursday dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Eastern Partnership, organised at Warsaw's Natolin European Centre. The Eastern Partnership is a Polish-Swedish initiative which emerged in 2009 and constitutes part of the European neighbourhood policy covering the EU's eastern neighbours. The aim of the Eastern Partnership is to strengthen political ties and economic integration between the EU and six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus.
