Duda signs domestic violence bill into law

May 20th, 2020

Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a bill into law on Wednesday tightening penalties for domestic violence. The new legislation obliges domestic violence perpetrators to leave the household rather than, as to date, the victims. The main aim of the new regulations is to speed up procedures leading to the isolation of domestic violence perpetrators from their victims. Under previous laws, perpetrators could be isolated from their victims only after lengthy court proceedings, the new rules cede such decisions onto the police.
