Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Tuesday he had made a decision to sign the amendment to the Supreme Court act following the constitutional provisions and because he thought the implementation of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) ruling was necessary. On Monday, the president signed into law a bill amending the law on the Supreme Court. The amendment reinstates Supreme Court and Supreme Administrative Court judges who retired after reaching the age of 65. "Like the Sejm and the Senate, I felt that it is necessary to enforce this ruling, regardless of the discussion whether such a ruling should and could be passed by the European Court, or whether the ruling goes beyond the treaty powers of the European Court, entering the organisation of the justice system, which is the internal domain of every member state," he emphasised.
