Dep PM Glinski: Polish-Israeli relations improving

April 17th, 2018

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Glinski said on Monday that Polish-Israeli relations were getting slightly better. Appearing in a TV interview, Glinski, whose governmental brief is culture and national heritage, said that the state of relations between Warsaw and Tel Aviv was "improving somewhat." He added that "we indeed had a crisis," because anti-Polish sentiment had been used as a weapon in Israeli politics, to attack Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "who sadly began to defend himself by referring to anti-Polish sentiment as well". Glinski also noted that Poland's new anti-defamation law had been used in Israel's internal politics "and this caused certain tensions". However, in his view, "common sense and calm" are always required and Poland, as a "proud, calmly developing, sovereign nation", does not need to "enter into rows, especially about such sensitive topics as Polish-Jewish issues".
