Defence minister discusses anti-terrorism efforts with Slovenian counterpart

November 3rd, 2020

Recent events in France and the terrorist attacks in Vienna have shown that preparations need to be made to maintain peace, security and stability, Defence Minister Tibor Benko said on Tuesday, after talks with his Slovenian counterpart in Budapest. Referring to recent killings in France and the armed attacks in Vienna on Monday evening, Benko said Hungary had started upgrading its armed forces to protect life in Hungary from being overshadowed by threats of terrorist attacks. "We cannot allow our children and grandchildren to grow up in such an environment," he told a joint press conference. Slovenian Defence Minister Matej Tonin congratulated "the minister and his team" for their achievements in military development. Tonin said the ministers also discussed cooperation in setting up an army hospital in Mali, in north Africa, "a source of migration" and so an important factor in European stability and peace.
