Death toll from Poland's deep freeze rises to 37

February 3rd, 2012

Poland's death toll from a week of extremely cold weather rose to 37 on Friday, the Interior Ministry said. Officials reported eight more deaths from the cold in Poland on Thursday night. The victims are mostly homeless people, many of them under the influence of alcohol who were seeking shelter in unheated buildings. Night temperatures in Poland sank to over minus 30 degrees Celsius.
